THE ELEPHANT MAN

For my Bachelor Thesis in Fashion Design I designed a collection inspired by David Lynch's film "The elephant man" and Tod Browning's "Freaks". The volumes of the clothes were looking to emulate the deformations of John Merrick, main character in Lynch's film surrounded by a circus atmosphere were beauty is not what you expect.

For this piece the scenography was created as a non-place, as a black waiting room which ended evolving into a small city full of lights where the characters became giants. The costumes were design as night gauns, as they were stucked in a long dream. The lights tried to evoque the city lights, traffic lights but also interiors.
